Knowledge in Action!

November is a busy month in the world of sport information sharing and knowledge transfer. With a variety of conferences and summits on the calendar, SIRC will be present in the following locations:

• Sport Canada Research Initiative Conference (SCRI) – Aylmer, Quebec (November 3, 2011)
SIRC hosts sport researchers, policy makers and practitioners sharing their knowledge and expertise with a vision to maximizing the practical applications of sport participation research and its potential contribution to sport participation policy in Canada. 


• Sport Innovation Summit (SPIN) – Toronto, Ontario (November 8-10, 2011)
Be sure to drop by the SIRC Resource Centre booth and check out the latest issue of the High Performance SIRCuit. 


• Petro Canada Sport Leadership Sportif Conference – Toronto, Ontario (November 10-12, 2011)
Debra Gassewitz, SIRC's president and CEO, will be presenting the Sport Management Stream Workshop 'Recruitment, Nominations and Orientation – How to attract and train sport leaders' on Saturday, November 12th. 


• Canadian Sport Policy Renewal  
The discussion paper "Towards a Renewed Canadian Sport Policy" is now available along with other sport policy renewal resources on the SIRC website.

Happy New Year!

The beginning of a new year is a great time to look forward to upcoming events, conferences and to explore new ways SIRC can continue to engage the sport community. We will be presenting great webinars such as the Canadian Olympic Team Marketing Vision by Derek Kent on January 14, 2014 that will deal with marketing vision and strategies as used by the Canadian Olympic Committee for the London And Sochi Olympic teams. On March 25, 2014, Marg McGregor will present Leadership in the Eye of the Storm a webinar on crisis management in sport. The SIRCuit Series will carry on informing on a variety of sports related topics shared by experts in their field to enhance the learning experience of our members. We are also looking forward to the Canadian Sports For Life Summit, which brings leaders together to enhance the quality of sports and physical activity in Canada, taking place on January 28-30, 2014 at the Hilton Lac-Leamy Hotel in Gatineau-Ottawa.

We are excited to watch Canada showcase it’s best athletes at the Sochi Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in 2014.

L'année 2013 a été fantastique pour SIRC. Notre partenariat avec Sport Canada et le Comité olympique canadien visant à produire la série de webinaires sur la gouvernance de SIRC a été une grande réussite, et nous avons reçu énormément de commentaires positifs de la part de la collectivité du sport. De plus, le SIRCuit de leadership et le SIRCuit de haute performance ont fait peau neuve et contiennent d'excellents articles qui ont été rédigés grâce à la contribution de tous les experts qui nous ont fait part de leurs connaissances cette année. Le recours au site d'emploi de SIRC a aussi augmenté considérablement cette année. En effet, plus de 1000 offres d'emploi ont été affichées, et nous avons diffusé plus de 6 000 communiqués de presse contenant les tout derniers renseignements sur le sport au Canada. Par ailleurs, notre engagement sur les médias sociaux a connu la plus importante croissance. En prenant en considération les visites sur notre site Web et les abonnés à notre bulletin, à notre blogue et à nos comptes Facebook et Twitter, nous estimons que notre portée totale atteint 2,7 millions de personnes!

Cette année a été vraiment incroyable, et l'équipe de SIRC a bon espoir que 2014 sera encore plus productive.

2013 was a fantastic year for SIRC. Our partnership with Sport Canada and the COC in producing the SIRC Governance Webinar Series has been extremely successful and we've had lots of positive feedback from the sport community. The Leadership SIRCuit and High Performance SIRCuit have a fresh new look and contain excellent content thanks to all of the experts who shared their knowledge with us this year. The SIRC job board had a substantial increase from last year with over 1000 jobs being posted, and we published over 6000 press releases containing the most current sport information in Canada. Our social media engagement has seen the biggest increase - including visits to our website, newsletter subscribers as well as Blogger, Facebook and Twitter followers, our estimated total reach is 2.7 million!

This past year has been truly amazing and the SIRC team is looking forward to an even better 2014.
